A:
Dr. Lee will review your medical history to determine the best acupuncture points to use during your first session.  Please come dressed in loose-fitting clothes, so can have access to your arms and legs for acupuncture.  Once needles are inserted, lights will be dimmed for you to relax for the remainder of your visit.  Dr. Lee will be present behind a room divider the whole time in case you need anything during your session for comfort. Once the session is done, the needles will be removed.  Please keep yourself hydrated after each session to allow the acupuncture to maximize blood flow.  Acupuncture frequency varies depending on the severity of your health concerns.  Can range from weekly to monthly for maintenance, or as needed.

Other Frequently Asked Questions About Acupuncture

Q: Does acupuncture hurt?
A:
Only fine needles are used in acupuncture, and when they are inserted there is a slight sensation. Once inserted, the needles may cause numbness, a calming, or a dull, achy sensation.  Above all, most of the time you do not feel the needles.  The worst it may feel like is a bug bite or pinch- nothing as painful as shots or injections.  Hypodermic needles are stiff, hollow, and thick for forcing liquid into body.  On the other hand, acupuncture needles are fine, flexible, and no thicker than a human hair (30 times smaller than hypodermic).  For example, first-time clients are usually amazed at how relaxed they can feel after acupuncture.

Q: Are acupuncture needles re-used?
A:
NO. Acupuncture needles are one-time use only, and immediately disposed of after use.

Q: Is acupuncture safe?
A:
The clinic uses only sterile, nontoxic, disposable needles.  In addition, acupuncture can still be done even if you have a blood clotting disorder or bruise easily.  It can also be done during pregnancy, there are just certain points that are not used during pregnancy.  However, acupuncture is not recommended if you have vasovagal syncope with needles.

Q: How deep are acupuncture needles inserted?
A:
On average 1/8″ deep.

Q: Acupuncture needles are made of what material?
A:
Stainless steel.

Q: What can I expect after acupuncture?
A:
Each individual responds to acupuncture differently- some feel more tired afterwards, some feel more energized afterwards.  That is to say, some notice effects immediately, some notice effects over time.  In conclusion, this is a great article on some of the possible physical effects of acupuncture from someone who had acupuncture for 3 months.  Click here to read the full article.
